For me it was Wetsuit by The Vaccines way back in 2011.
In 2012 I accepted a promotion within my company. I left the UK and moved to Germany.
We are surrounded by influencers every day, some can affect you instantly or some indirectly without you realising. For me and my friends this was a song we would sing out loud at the top of our lungs walking down the street, dancing around the house or at a music festival, namely IOW 2011. I would say the lyrics were definitely an influencer and I distinctly remember taking note of the reaction I got from them as soon as I first heard this song.
Also I feel like I should mention this song by a main stream German pop band, Silbermund. This was a radio hit in 2015 when I first moved to Germany. This was at a time when my German was at a very basic level and I was trying to listen to the radio to understand their meaning. This one stood out, because essentially the lyrics are about questioning about all the ‘stuff’ in your life, do you really need it and is it better to have less rather than more, a more basic life, a more simple life, ‘Leichtes Gepäck – a lightweight pack’.
